There were words, yes, but nothing strong enough to leave an impact, not a lot of the thoughts and poems were artistically written and there is nothing that I read in this book, that I will remember.

this really let me down… i’d been waiting to read this for four years and now it’s just… pretty mediocre. does she say some true things? yes. does she phrase things beautifully sometimes? yes. but this was not poetry. i liked individual lines but usually not the whole piece of text on the page and it just really didn’t stand out to me. i’ve been looking back on her book pillow thoughts thinking she was a masterful writer and poet but maybe i just read pillow thoughts when i was fifteen and mentally ill and in love and she wrote gay poems and like i’m still mentally ill and in love and she still writes gay poems but maybe this is just for the fifteen year olds and maybe i’ve just grown out of it

”A long time ago, she used to believe all the roads in the world would not lead her to where she needed to go. But she’s older now, and knows that roads crack in the heat and disappear in the snow, but if she places one foot in front of the other, eventually she will get to where she needs to go.”

Some of the poems in this book were not my thing, or they sounded forced, but over all, the feeling at the root of it was good.

I picked this up at a little neighborhood library with the hope that it would address mental health well. I wouldn't say it did. It was a standard modern poetry book (maybe even worse) about a relationship ending and a new one coming after it. AND IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU, TOO!!! That's the main point of the book. But it was unrealistic and full of cliches. My favorite of the outstandingly profound (not) lines was:
"I love you,
like I love soup"
uff da.
I'm tempted to return this book to the little library with this review written on a post it inside of it.
