Jason Kander was a big up and coming name in the Democratic Party following serving time in the military when he realized that he felt like his family would be better off if he was no longer around. Luckily, with the support of his wife, he was willing to step back from the big stage of politics and reach out to the VA for help in addressing his mental health. Diagnosed with PTSD, Kander utilizes his platform to show that there can be growth and success after treatment for PTSD. Kander's willingness to do this and to be the face of accepting treatment for PTSD likely has saved many lives. I appreciate that and his willingness to share his experience in more detail with us through this book! While the Democratic Party lost a great candidate, Kander seems to be truly loving life - embracing his hobbies, loving his family, and helping others. This is such an important book for giving hope to so many.
enjoyed this, the therapy talk in the second half became repetitive, but I really appreciated Jason's openness in sharing his story. he would have been a great POTUS
Extremely well-written and well-narrated (I listened to the audiobook) by Kander. Moments of humor, sadness, fear, pride. Best book I have read or listened to in a long time.

I’m not a huge believer in rating memoirs because it feels icky to rate someone’s life experience.
But this was so well written and so helpful in terms of my own mental health journey.
“Thinking other people have it worse doesn't actually diminish your own trauma, it just diminishes your power to heal.”
