I ended up DNFing this series on the second book. I have read other series by this author that I enjoyed but this one missed the mark.
M Sinclair definitely has a theme they like to stick to for the series that I have read. This is my 3rd so far for the author and they all have had a naive, innocent FMC with a tragic backstory and very possessive, protective men. The men fall fast and hard and for the majority of the characters the relationship conflicts are external. Everyone is pretty insta-lovey which for the other series I have been ok with.
The FMC in this one was so incredibly naive and it started to annoy me. Halfway through the second book I just couldn’t take it anymore. Her constantly misunderstanding everything because she was so sheltered was supposed to be funny but the author did it too much in my opinion. Most of what I read in the second book was her men spoiling her and talking about how they just want to make her happy. Which is all fine and dandy but there wasn’t enough plot to keep me interested.
I’m bummed about this one. I like this author and this book was a good start to the series but the second book took such a dive for me I won’t be continuing.

The blurb sounded awesome but man the writing was atrocious. Also the story made no sense. The fmc was a Mary Sue and gave 2012 tumblr girl vibes. The guys love her because she’s so “different but in a good way” (that’s an actual quote) and “not fake like everyone else” (again a line from the book).
And then halfway through the book, two of the guys (twins) are suddenly world famous rockstars? Never has any impact on the plot other than that they give her a private show. Except that it’s not private because their two exes show up and fmc is sad because the twins call her her friend instead of her mate. Even though she knows why they did it and agrees with the reasoning. She gets sad and then everyone just immediately ignores what they just talked about and they tell the world they’re mates. Also the twins have oral sex with her so she’s not sad anymore.
All of this happens in one chapter and then never factors into the plot again.
She also randomly gets a wolf shifter (Croy) as a mate. She already has all of her 6 (SIX!!) dragon mates. I browsed through some reviews of the rest of the series and she ends up with 8 mates. Never explained how the mating bond works because it seems kind of weird to be a Phoenix that usually only mates with dragons and to suddenly also have a wolf shifter and an angel(?) as mates. In this book dragons are only males and phoenixes only female, any children they have are full-blooded dragons (boys) or phoenixes (girls). So then why also the wolf and angel (in book 5) and why is it not explained? What does it mean????
I expect to find this on Wattpad about ten years ago. Finished the book just to see if she shifts (which she doesn’t until the end of book two so if you’re waiting for that, just DNF). Also, why did the mother take her away from her dad to take her to school? It’s kind of said later that the girl (forgot her name) is forced to ask/take money from the guys by Jed and her mom, but they couldn’t have known that they would be mates. They don’t even know mates exist so what the fuck was that plan? It made no sense storywise other than for the writer to be able to introduce the mates.
I just realised I only write reviews on books I didn’t like. Also, why is the rating on this book so high.

Reborn in Flames is about Maya, a sheltered girl, who founds out the world around her is not what she thought-- especially considering her upbringing. M. Sinclair is one of my favorite authors, and while I do love this series so far, it is not her best work. I love reading about shifters and obviously love the steamy scenes, but this is definitely a fast-burn romance even though the main character had been abused for most of her life. Ignoring that one little fact, Maya finds herself mated to dragons and ends up taking it better than expected. The change of POVs are done well and the story line is clear. Recommend if you want a fast-paced shifter romance.
I started this series due the author posting her new release for book 5 last week in another authors group page. I've had several of her titles on my TBR list for a while now so I figured I'd go ahead and start with this one. I loved the entire series and I'm so glad she posted about it, otherwise I'd have missed out.

Maya is a VERY sheltered, innocent, somewhat naive young woman. She literally only ever spoke to three other people in her life and had never been outside of the walls of the church's basement. That is, until her mother moved her across the country to live with her mother's boyfriend, Jed. It was because of this move that Maya accidently met her mates.
It's pretty adorable to watch how she reacts to things. Whether it be certain words, technology, other people, the fact that there's a whole other world with shifters, and so on. Even just within the first week and a bit of knowing the guys, she changes from being fairly meek to being able to stand up for herself.
By the end of the book, you can already tell there's going to be a few things this group is going to have to deal with, both with humans AND the shifters. This book is definitely just the beginning and is starting to set the stage for what's to come.
Fun, fun, for them!

From that first page I knew I’d be hooked. This has some of my favorite things in it.
1. Guys who fall quick and are obsessed
2. An innocent and slightly naive FMC
3. FMC with a troubled and tough past
4. Shifters
Seriously, this hits so many marks and I loved it. I finished this one in a day! I can’t wait to read more and learn more about Maya and the guys.
Highly recommend!

I gave it a 3.75 because the potential of the story is there and I want to know what will happen in the next book.
The characters are all likeable. I specifically like the innocence of FMC and how she finds joy as she discover new things. The guys are nice and are very protective but not to the point of smothering the FMC.
why is she always sleeping/falling asleep tho? 😂😅
