the scene were Elara needed to wear a veil for five minutes to get in the temple but oh couldn't stand it because it was just oh so suffocating was soooo unnecessary, unless the author was trying to push a certain agenda then maybe it was 🤷♀️

My feelings about this book changed throughout the course of reading it. The beginning started out strong and gave me certain expectations regarding the style in which the story would be told. I anticipated deeper and more colorful world building, however, the plot that developed became more of just a basic and typical fantasy read. In the middle of the story I was able to immerse myself and enjoy it, after having readjusted my expectations (I liked the sirens though they only played a small part, I enjoyed some the imagery regarding the settings and costumes and such, I liked that the romance involved yearning and didn't fully blossom immediately). But for whatever reason, I didn't feel very invested around the ending. It's not a story that will stick with me, the plot twists weren't dramatic enough, I won't be picking up the next book in the series, and the style of writing wasn't very unique or artistic to me; but since I was able to get invested in the middle of the plot, I'll give this four stars.
