RAPID REVIEW: In short, this book CHANGED THE GAME for me. I wasn't expecting to fall so hard for it (even though I'm a sucker for Gods meddling in worlds they've lost since ignored). Something tangible about this one that I loved, and why I keep coming back to it, is the quality of the writing. The characters are dimensional, the world-building is multi-faceted, the magic system is beautifully done with all hierarchy of magical beings - fire wielders, shadow-wielders, seers, sirens, gods, and MORE. It’s all good and I could talk about every facet of this for forever (and I will likely bring it up multiple times until book 2 comes out).

RATING:  ⭐⭐⭐⭐ .5 STARS

RECOMMEND: 50000000% yes WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

'A woman can be both, you know. Soft and fierce. She does not have to choose.'

Our FMC, Elara is a QUEEN, and I don’t just mean that in the obvious “to-be crowned queen of Asteria”. She is fierce, flawed, determined, and powerful while also being weak, worried, and apprehensive. Very human while also being other-worldly. Her character arc is like many - fall, rise, and reap her revenge while finding friends and loved ones to protect along the way. And it's just PERFECTION. I love Elara a lot, even in her inner voice monologue which is equally motivational and hilarious.

'You overestimate my compassion, Elara, and underestimate how deeply mine you are. I would let the whole world burn if it kept you warm.'

Our MMC, Enzo aka Lorenzo THE MF LION, is the perfect balance for Elara. Where she is stubborn, he is soft (for her, specifically), where she is high-panic, he’s the calm to balm her worries, when she falls, he picks her up. Like, he’s everything soft yet still commanding in an mmc I’ve seen since Rowan. Being soft for her is an ultimate trope for me so I've been sat for alllllll the pining 🥵❤️‍🔥

MORE NOTES...

★ Isra, Merissa, and Leo are literally the cutest, funniest, most-protective, TELL IT LIKE IT IS side characters I’ve read in a long time. The banter with the girls had me cackling because they truly are portrayed as besties. And when you get to how Leo and Enzo met I mean the tears would've fallen if I wasn't so wrapped up in everything else at the time. Love a good bromance.

★ The spice was SPICY. Although I felt ROBBED of the scene during the summer solstice in Helion like wtf King you aren't wanted here!

★ The gods that you get interact with are SO FUN. I loved seeing how much they try to tempt fate while still toeing the line of not messing it up (as usual in most god-involved storylines), but something felt reminiscent of god-intervention like 'A Shadow in the Ember' and I just really love that involvement in series like these.

★ All in all - 10/10 would recommend putting yourself through the torture of having to wait for the sequel, if only to experience this beautiful piece of ART in its single state.
