Ok listen......This book was good but not in the way I wanted it to be.

Was it a fun read? Absolutely? Is Enzo eligible for best book boyfriend award 100%. HOWEVER ... I have 2 qualms

Qualm 1: There was too many cheesy moments that took me out of it. Like the whole period scene? Be soooo incredibly forreal. The explanation of a record player? Please. It would be like a good rhythm and flow going, but then some cheesy dumb thing would happen and it would make me put down the book.

Qualm 2: WHY DID ALL OF THAT HAPPEN AT THE END?!?!?!?!? I won't spoil it but the last handful of chapters were so out of left field and it made the plot feel muddy to me. I love the idea, it was just subpar execution for me personally. There was a lot of fluff stuff that happened in the beginning, and I just felt like there was a lot of fat that could have been cut out to make that ending have more of an impact.

Bonus Qualm: I HATEDDDDDDDDD
Spoilerthe way that there were so many half assed "break ups" and back and forths like by the 3rd one I just skimmed until they made up again because it just seemed irrelevant

So all in all I did have fun reading this book, I had to remind myself that this was like a romance book in a fantasy setting so while I did get annoyed at times, it explained some plot choices, AND Enzo is top tier IMO. Like...... top tier.

Plot is not unique. The enemy-dynamic between the FMC and MMC is so forced.

Honestly probably my favorite fantasy/romantasy of the year so far! The world-building and relationship between Elara and Enzo were everything. The last 10% of the book gave me whiplash with all of the twists and turns, and I think the writing suffered here a bit- I felt it was missing context in places and that took away from it a little for me. Small detail in the grand scheme, overall reading this book was the feeling I'm aiming for when reading a fantasy.

Impatiently waiting for the next one!

Phenomenal. Amazing!!!! No notes
