found myself liking Xavier more by the very end… don’t think that was the intention but something about him

but also, Fallen:
“You don’t hate me?” I question the words, leaving me with no thought. “Hate you?” He questions, his head shaking, “Forest, I’m in love with you.” He says, my heart ready to burst from emotion.

“call me every name you can think of,'' He pushes, his nose inches away from my own, “be disgusted by me, please. Say anything so that I won't do it,'' Our hearts race, “Tell me to stop.”

tehehe

You can’t love someone you don’t know. You can’t LOVE someone you don’t know!!!

So here’s my thing. So many people have mentioned editing, so I expected misspelling or poor grammar. But no one mentioned the fact that there are literal partial sentences of ideas for things/incomplete scenes that jump around. It was rough. Especially when we hardly got anyyyyyy answers as to wth was going on. Too much mystery, not enough common sense.

I truly haven’t been this hooked on a book since I read ACOTAR. I love books with a dystopian setting, and I LOVE a good enemies to lovers (this book was serving both). If you can get past some grammatical errors (comes with self publishing), it was such an engaging book to read. And the character art throughout the book?? Icing on top of the cake ✨

The Order: Kingdom of Fallen Ash - 4.2⭐️

Spoiler Free Plot Review, mild Vibes spoilers.

Okay I have so much to say about this book and first is wow. How absolutely fun this was and different from literally everything I have been reading. I have been trying to find a good adult or NA Dystopian book for so long and this definitely delivered.

Let’s talk plot. Wow, where we started and where we have now finished is absolutely absurd. And it’s only book 1. This book is set in A dystopian, almost post apocalyptic doomsday society where people are microchipped, can be controlled, and have memories erased, locked, etc. There are two types of people at first the unfortunates and untouchables, about halfway through the book we are also introduced to shifters which are essentially radiation like filled scary zombie humans that like “marked” people’s blood.

I found that the story progressed pretty quickly and you were always jumping to a new scene which really keeps my attention. I don’t like lingering too long in one spot of a book. Sometimes the transitions did get a bit lost and you had to kind of just figure out what was happening as you went. There were plot twists and the book does leave off on a cliffhanger but it isn’t a terrible one. Some of the plot twists and reveals at the end had me genuinely jaw dropped and I got CHILLS at one point because of how the story was connecting. It was SO COOL.

Moving on to characters, I am only gonna touch on the three mains. There are side characters like Forests brother and her parents that were very well developed which is one of my favorite tropes in books, but I will be holding off on getting into them until later in the series. Forest our FMC gives me mixed emotions. I really loved her in the beginning and once she started to have these rebellious feelings I was eating it up. However some of the thought process and access into her thoughts wasn’t always super smooth. I think there could have been a bit more development and show of the internal struggle she was having to really make her snap. Two MMC’s and love interests starting with the annoying as heck Fallan. I liked him at first, but he starting pissing me off really quick with how back and forth he was with Forest. I do understand there is mind control and chips and things involved but my gosh telling her you want her and pushing her away so many times I was big mad. As for Xavier, I am so obsessed. Idk what it is about the blonde morally grey tortured mmc but I fold everytime. Gosh this man was so great. Throughout the book we get a mix of Aaron Warner, Klaus Mikaelson, and dark war AU Draco in Xavier. It was the best combo. I devoured it.

There have been some mixed reviews regarding the writing and quality of writing that I want to address. Whenever I go into an indie published book I like to look into the author and see where they are in their career being published. Aka I always keep my expectations very realistic. Yes, there are grammar mistakes, yes sometimes the chapter breaks or scene changes don’t flow super smoothly, but this author does not have a professional editor and has literally written these books so fast so we don’t have to wait for the story. Before bashing a book over a few grammatical errors, do your research on how the book is published and edited, then set your writing quality expectations. I promise you that all of your favorite authors would have these same mistakes if they didn’t have super expensive fancy editors!!!

With that being said, the writing did not take away from the quality of the story for me and how much I enjoyed it. If you are someone that can’t stand grammatical errors, or not super smooth transitions, know that this book has them and it probably will bother you.

Romance wise this one was a slowwwww burn. Which I love so I was not complaining. The banter and moments where Forest snuck away with one of the boys were good, but I will say her attraction towards Xavier in the beginning was a bit confusing to me. I am just not sure how authentic it felt. As the book progressed though I was loving it. Only one spicy scene and it was pretty mild, but I have been told book 2-3 have wayyyy more. I am not a huge spicy girl, but I like when it is important to the plot which it definitely is in this series.

No tears were shed in this book. I definitely didn’t get too emotionally invested in the characters yet, but I’m getting there for sure. Will be starting book two this month

The plot kept me interested but fell apart around the 87% mark so I won’t be returning for book 2. I was throughly confused through most of it and it’s in desperate need of a re-edit/re-write. The concept was there the execution was not enough.

this book easily could have been a 5/6 star read but i feel like the author focused too much on extraneous details and not enough on big ones, it took about 300 pages for the plot to even start amidst all the too detailed world building then we never get descriptions for how she finds oht certain things about her powers or that she can use them in specific ways she just kind of does it leaving readers a bit confused. besides that, this book was still incredible and a bit of streamlining is all this book would need to be an instant dystopian classic. the story was amazing the twists were twisting and the love was beautiful, super excited to dig into the next

A fast paced, detailed dystopian world ruled by an order who has cruel intentions for anyone who opposes them.

In an attempt to create the perfect humans, a society controls their citizens every move.  For those who do not pass the purity tests, they are dumped into a ghetto of barely livable conditions.

Two people destined to be together no matter how many times they are ripped apart, are willing to risk it all and they slowly begin to see how it affects everyone they hold dear.

I loved this book and so glad I came across it. Social media certainly helps finding banger books.
