the relationship between fu shen and yan xiaohan is enough for me to give the book 5 stars. i absolutely love enemies to lovers/arranged marriage tropes. combined with their personality type, i actually loved them so much. so many sweet moments in the book.
the reason for a 4.5 overall is that i did get lost a Lot in this book, but i think it’s just that the pacing is fast and im actually kind of bad at reading fast paced books. i understand the plot as a whole kind of vaguely to be honest. i know what’s going on but if you ask me to explain things in detail i’d be like “well you see….”
but overall, i adored it. and i do see myself re-reading in the future!

Oof, so I'm really not happy with this one. Thought it would be some sort of enemies to lovers story with the romance building up throughout it - that's at least what it got marketed as. But no, there is a tiny bit of buildup (where one of them was mostly sick and therefore "out of order") and then a sudden jump (not even halfway through) to the two of them suddenly being all cute together. They weren't even really enemies to begin with, at least that's the impression I got. The rest of the book is then about their shared background and the political intrigue.
All in all I was left disappointed because I just expected something different.
