A quick read and very funny. Unfortunate that “the duckling that was judged on its personal merits and not on its physical appearance” didn’t make the cut.

Clever. Kind of got old though by the time I reached the end. Some of the stories are much better than the others. Or maybe I'm just slow.

I know the reviews have been hit and miss on this one but for me it's always been a hit! This is one that I re-read periodically for fun which is why I’m adding it to my Must Read shelf. My version also include the Once Upon a More Enlightened Time book.

Much as the title suggests, the classic fairy tales are given a twist to address many bias including those ‘as yet unnamed’. For example, Little Red Riding Hood resents the wood-chopper person from assuming womyn and wolves can’t solve their own problems. Most are very short, quick reads so it’s a great travel book. It certainly isn’t the book for everyone as the razor sharp satire does fall into absurdity quite often. However, I also found the original Grimm tales absurd at times too so I think it honors the traditions nicely.

Even with repeated viewings, it always makes me laugh and makes me think. For a book to do both is most impressive so I am happy to give this 4 enthusiastic stars!

I read this in high school. I don't remember enough of what I thought about this to give it a star rating. I don't think I liked it, but I think I did find some parts of it funny. I think generally I didn't like the idea of rewriting fairy tales to be more appropriate and see it as a form of censorship, but of course there are problems with the original stories and I think readers have to be aware of that when reading them. I also read part of the Politically Correct Christmas stories, but I got tired of it a lot faster and didn't finish it. I got really confused when Frosty and the children started an environmentalist march and go to Washington DC. It felt like it came out of nowhere and didn't make sense.
