A very fun, imaginative, absolutely engrossing book series.

The author is writes lovable characters that sometimes do very foolish things yet somehow you are rooting for them while also having unlovable characters that are deliciously antagonistic.

The pacing, unraveling, and conclusion of each book was spot on. I never felt bored or like I was reading to 'just get through it'.

Definitely worth a re-read.

Just tired of the rebellious girl trope. It falls into the patriarchal trap that femininity is something bad, that the protagonist is “not like other girls”. It was fun but that scene is tired.

That was quite a ride. I always knew I would finish the series because I am stubborn and because the story is good.
However, it was just so painful. The author took likable and multifaceted characters and made them go through hell on both physical and emotional level.
I believe it's the first time when reading a book was so stressful just for sheer amount of suffering. The language is drawing in, the word building is very good, the interactions look realistic, the plot is fast-paced and has unexpected twists. Also I get emotionally attached to the characters. So I couldn't stop.
The things are made myself go through

The Shades of Magic series is a fantastic series about the last Antari (a magician with the very rare ability to travel between the three Londons), Kell, and the talented, cutthroat thief, Delilah Bard and their fight to save all three Londons from very dangerous magic.
-
I absolutely loved all three books in this series. I was never bored, I loved being in that world and going on those adventures with Kell and Lila, among other wonderful characters. It had everything I personally love in a fantasy series! Adventure, a little romance, a little piracy, deception, magic, and really interesting and lovable characters all in an incredible world.
-
I HIGHLY recommend giving this series a shot if you haven't already!

Review in form of a stream of thoughts:

Four worlds divided
by distance, as well as magic
the travelers are marked by blood
and darkness
and shalowness

Worlds unexplored, even after 600 pages -
characters without substance
that never learn
(and oh, how unfit for their roles they all are!)
you can open the first and the last page
and they are the same, or even less defined.

The scenes change,
yet you do not care
for there is nothing at stake
(not really),
and you can close the book at any time
without ever asking "what happened next"?

DNF at 80%
- that's how much I cared
