Pretty obvious that the creative team was forced to rush this final story. I will really miss the kids of Gotham Academy. #pizzaclub

3 stars. The conclusion to this series and...it was okay. Not gonna lie, I was expecting so much more for the ending especially since I thought the last volume was really good but this didn't impress me. It didn't even feel like an ending. Olive has this whole Jekyll and Hyde thing going on with Calamity and it's hyped to the high heavens throughout the entire series and it has all this potential to be gut wrenching and yet satisfying but then it just fizzles out with a whimper. Womp womp.

All of my complaining aside I'm honestly going to miss this series. It's just such a cute and fun series that I didn't know I would adore so much when I picked up that very first volume. Finishing this just made me appreciate this series more because these characters are just so wonderful and lovable. Also, the artwork in this was fantastic and was the best part. This series deserved a better ending, I'm sorry to keep saying it but it did. This was rushed and the story felt half-assed like they just were tired and wanting to end it.

I still would recommend this series though, that's how much I adore over all. Just be prepared for a lackluster ending.

The closing of Olive's possession arc would have been more impactful, had it not been for the sudden inclusion of new characters. Olive's ancestor Amity is on a path of vengeance, and is coming for all the original families of Gotham - which includes Wayne, and some others. So while Calamity is out there setting fires, the Detective squad is trying to find a way to speak to the spirit and make her leave Olive. The plot was unnecessarily convoluted and I didn't even find it satisfying to have all the threads wrapped up - no sequel to the original first volume has lived up to it, and the sudden out of character behaviour for some main characters meant it was a messy finish. Honestly, the only thing I could heartily recommend this series for is the artwork - the storyline is not nearly as good as I expected it to be.

The ending felt rushed and abrupt, Map's reaction to something and her 180 on Olive felt incredibly off, and I waited too long between the previous volume and this one

PROTECT MAPS MIZOGUCHI. Love that Amy has taken a backseat after being featured so predominantly in the first issue, although there is definitely something sinister about her.

And I know that she's a teenager, and she's been through a lot, but people really need to stop letting Olive get away with being kind of a shitty friend. She consistently doesn't treat Maps that well, considering how lovely Maps is to her; she loves to make everything about her (Maps getting kidnapped has NOTHING to do with you); and I feel like she doesn't value her friends in the Detective Club enough if she's willing to toss them aside to hang with her asshole roommate who left her locked in a room with a boy having an asthma attack (and Amy also took the asthma pump with her, which is messed up). Just... I gave Olive a break in the first few volumes, but can she actually face the consequences for being a bad friend?

I recognise I'm very passionate about Gotham Academy. It's just the way I am.
