I wanted something light and easy after reading a particularly heavy novel, and this hit the spot! It’s fun, not too complicated, fascinating, and has just the right amount of a slow burn romance. It’s cute, nothing too special, but cute.

I’m not likely to read the rest of the series as I think this works well as a stand-alone.

Took me a long time to get into because I found the narrator so irritating. Plot was predictable and the language was bland. Did enjoy the parallels between history and the present, as well as how the author links reality as we know it to the occult.

I really liked the story, but I really didn't like Rosie. She seemed too snarky for me; I get enough of that each day...

Ugh I had wanted to read this book for so long since I saw it in Waterstones ages ago and finally bought it on kindle and man I was just so disappointed. I usually love books about witches they are one of my favourite supernatural beings to read about but this book was just a huge no from me. I felt like the author was trying to impart so much about their own knowledge about witches onto us in a bid to show just how much research they'd done in prep for the book and it just came off as fact reeling and info dumpy. I didn't like either of the main characters, they both annoyed me to no end, I feel like the fact we didn't see whether their relationship would turn romantic or not was used as a deliberate ploy and hook to make me read the next book, which I will not be doing. There was a whole array of characters present that were introduced at the beginning of the book then never mentioned again till the end so I'd completely forgotten their role and who they were. Also the 'villains' of the story were introduced literally in the last twenty percent of the book and it just felt so random and stupid as did the ending of the book. It took me over a month to finish this book, and in this case I wish I was the sort of person who could DNF books so I could've with this one but I just don't have it in me. Sadly, this book was not for me though I really did want to love it. I won't be continuing on with the series.

Meh. I’m not sure how this ended up on my TBR. The writing was…weird. Trees blowing in the wind were referred “cheerleaders with pom-poms” multiple times cheering the characters on, odd. Characters were cliche and predictable. One and done on this series for me.

While the plot was interesting, it felt more like a beach read than I wanted it to. Cheeky and unique, the dialogue was incredibly cheesy and oftentimes I struggled to understand because she jumped the plot around.

This is a fun book that takes us on a tour of the South East of England as Rosie Strange and Sam go on a hunt for the missing bones of a 16th century witch. Rosie has inherited the Essex Witch museum from her late grandfather and skeptical of all things spooky and witchy has plans to sell before agreeing to find the missing witch bones to potentially save a young boys life.

There's not a great deal of mystery in it. It's a beach read for those of us that don't read chick-lit. It passes quite quietly as the two go off on what to me felt mostly like a road trip tale for the first half of the book kicking in then as the bad guys starting coming out of the woodwork and we get the intriguing MI6/ spy network joining in the chase.

I would have liked more on the bad guy (girl in this instance). She sounded actually really interesting and with a name like Elizabeth Bathory I was dying for them to bring in links about the namesake but sadly they didn't. But I did like the fact that despite being the bad guy she has no lines and is practically non-existent in the book. I want more!

It's fast paced, taking place over a few days. There's a lot of energy in the book. I enjoyed the characters. They guys have hidden depths and I'm looking forward to Rosie accepting her latent talents and working with them in future books. There's a lot of room for these characters to grow.

Overall a good book. Thumbs up :)
