"We don't say nothing more. What else is there to say? Everything and nothing. You can't say everything, so you don't say nothing."

"Doing what's right should be easy. It shouldn't be just another big mess like everything else."

The main character annoyed me a lot most of the time BUT I did find myself really engaged with the plot and asking questions the whole time

I love this book. I cried so much. You can also find some good, cool and heartbreaking quotes in the book.
I just didn't give 5 stars because there is one thing that keeps happening again and again, but in the last chaperts of the book you will understand why it is repeating.

felt very attached to the characters very quickly, made me cry, made me laugh, good book.

i love the emphasis Ness conveys through his writing with repetition, well placed line ends, etc.. i think there was a very good balance of world building where i could always picture the scene well but never felt like skipping to the end of the paragraph bc i was bored. big fan of the way Ness gave next to no descriptions of the characters (with the exception of Aaron’s body horror), i personally pictured Viola as a black girl and i was worried there would be a description later in the book that would mess up that image but it just never came up. last thing, i don’t know if this changes in the next books but i loved that there was no romance between Todd and Viola. i think that would have been entirely unnecessary and weird to be frank (the movie cough cough). i loved the bond they grew and some strange child-romance would have felt very americanly forced. but yes, good book

rest in peace Manchee you were a darn good dog

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS

- Todd seems like a very unlikable but realistic character. His development is super nice to see during the story and his perseverance is jawdropping
- The poor grammar and dialect seemed odd at first, but I quickly got used to it and thought of it as normal, because the narration is Todd’s thoughts. We’re reading it as the characters hear it
- Kept me on my toes the whole time. So many moments of diverted expectations. I never knew what would happen
- Viola was my fav character cuz she’s the most logical and relatable to me I guess?
- The author did a good job of almost making me sympathize with Todd wanting to kill Aaron. Almost justified his rage and murderous intent
- Manchee did not deserve to die. What the fuck
- Ending also. What the fuck

Overall a good read. Hoping to continue the series when I’m able

This book pulled me in from the start. The language was a bit hard to understand at the beginning but as I kept reading it became easier. Can't wait to pick up the next book and keep going with the series

OH MY GOD. Reading this along with the audiobook made it ten thousand times better! I literally reacted out loud so many times and never wanted to put it down. It didn’t help that I had two dogs in my lap and one by my feet at a certain point in the book

I loved this book so much, it’s one of the few books that is able to make me cry rereading it. I did find it hard to get into to start, but overall a big fan.
