It's definitely better than I remembered, but that was over 20 years ago, so how much do I actually remember? I think my big problem is the end and that final battle. Was that really necessary? Didn't we just see the same thing at the end of the last book? Maybe it was in the prophecies, I don't know, I guess I need to dig up my copy of the Karaethon Cycle.

Significant improvement over the original. This book wastes no time separating itself from the tropes set up in the 1st book. Rand’s character growth in particular is fantastic. I had some issue with “The Game” in Cairhien. The setup made for some great scenes but for some reason them all acknowledging it as “The Game” took me out of it a bit. The novel is still slower paced but it builds to an amazing and well earned climax. The Flicker Flicker Flicker scene is the best in the series thus far and will stay in my mind for a long time.
