Invasion of The Body Snatchers is one of my go-to comfort horror films that I've been watching since I was a kid. The remake with Lenard Nemoy. This is my first time reading the book, though, and I loved it.

There is so much philosophy in the book that I think is missing from the file though I do think that the book lacks in certain ways that the film excels in but bother are great and feed into eachother.

There were some moments when I felt like the language in the book was unnecessarily verbose, or that the characters made choices that I thought were.....really kind of unrealistic. ~spoiler~ For example, when they make it out of town to a motel but then decide to just...turn back and go back into town, I don't think anyone would make that decision. There were also moments where I felt like it was obvious that the person they were talking to was a pod person but they were still like...listening to them (Manny when he was telling them that it was all a delusion and the professor telling them that the article was BS- I thought it was pretty obvious that they weren't human at that point).~end spoiler ~

Overall, this was an amazing, suspenseful sci-fi classic that was just as good as the film and might become a go-to comfort horror read.

I have seen all the movies. It was time to read the novel. I was both excited by this novel and disappointed by the ending. I now see why each movie has a different ending and none of them match the novels. Jack Finney was able to keep an tense pace going in what was basically a 200 page extended chase scene. It was a tad nonsensical from a biological standpoint what happened to the human bodies after "conversion" but that was a minor point and at least Mr. Finney tried to address it. I also liked the blatant self promoting of his other novel Time and Again, although that must have been an addition in a later edition of the novel as that work did not come out until 1970. Over all a classic that I am glad I have finally read.

Ah, body snatching. Love it! There's something genuinely eerie and threatening about the seeds, pods, and duplicates. On film anyway. The book has its charm and its moments, but for some reason I was never really completely into it. Figured I would enjoy it a bit more, like I did the 1956 movie. The 1978 version is still my favorite body snatching experience. Never ever will I forget Donald Sutherland's facial expression when he points the finger. That scene gave little me a few sleepless nights.
