My absolute favorite!

Beautiful, lush, prose - such lovely writing. Sometimes I find writers from 100+ years ago offputting and hard to enjoy, and while the book portrays a complicated look at feminism, it is stunning. I will continue to read as much Cather as I can.

I read the Great Plains trilogy out of order, having finished My Antonia last year not even realizing it was part of a larger work. This is the first volume.

This is a really beautiful, sad book about life on the Nebraska prairie at the turn of the 20th century. The characterization is well devleoped and it's so succinct. I have read so, so many overly long books that it's a pleasure to read something where nothing written seemed superfluous.

I will say that is has a fairly puritanical moral compass, so if that's not something you jive with, the ending of this book might give you pause. However, I think it's very in keeping with the attitudes of when this was written.

My Antonia is one of my favorite books so I wanted to read this one. I enjoyed it almost as much. I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere so maybe I related to it a bit more than others might but I truly enjoyed this book.

One of the few books I've read more than once.

Give me all the lonely people working the fields and finding love that you got!

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into this book, as the description says almost nothing about the contents, but I enjoyed this. The story is short, easy to read, and thought provoking; it feels quite bittersweet.

CONTENT: language (d*mn, H*ll, “by God”). Sexual (SLIGHT SPOILER: a woman is in an unhappy marriage and is in love with someone else, she tries to avoid him and her feelings, they kiss but nothing sexual happens between them). Other (a girl “tells fortunes” but they are purely fun and made up).
