As an environmental scientist, I saw myself in parts of Helen and Beckett. This was such a heartwarming read, I finished it in two sittings.

I enjoyed that the character flaws were complex, and the reveals/resolution was very well paced.

The miscommunication between Helen and Jake was a bit childish, but I appreciated Helen’s inner-dialogue.

5/5, would recommend. 0/5 wouldn’t recommend the movie..

Katherine Center is always a win for me. I adored these characters so much. I could relate to how uptight Helen was and wanting to change her life and be stringent about the rules. I could also relate to having a crush on someone you know is wrong for you and ignoring all your gut instincts anyway.

I loved Duncan even though his actions were confusing. He was so quirky and fun and just had this young energy in spite of the things he’s going through.

They didn’t make sense together, but they made sense together, ya know?

I watched the Netflix movie soon after and that was a mistake! It didn’t hold a candle to the book. There was no chemistry. Their love story didn’t feel believable. I also didn’t like how Duncan was portrayed in the movie. He felt too serious. I was so disappointed because I wanted to see their love story onscreen, but it didn’t do it for me at all.

Loved the book though and I want to reread it if only to get thoughts of the movie out of my head.

Hmm, parts of this book were great, and parts made me pretty mad, but overall I liked it. Except for one thing that happened near the end with Helen's dog, which should not have happened at all, or at least should have been written differently. One whole star off for that.

Anyhow, I wished there had been more romance in it, and also more time with Helen's brother and their relationship, but I really liked the middle of the book when she was out in the wilderness discovering herself.

So freaking cute. Tbh would’ve liked more spice but I loved it and can’t wait for the movie.
