The ending was a little "out there" but just as it should have been. Extremely original and #unputdownable. I read it in 6 hours late night and early morning.

A very fine horror book! There was one really creepy and terrifying scene. After that it wasn't as good or creepy but the ending was still satisfying.
The real hero of this book is Bongo and that we get told right at the beginning that the dog survives :)

The issue I find with T Kingfisher’s horror writing is that it is a terrifying beginning that grows less frightening as soon as there’s any found footage. And there’s always found footage. She usually recovers, but my disappointment was too great to overcome.

T. Kingfisher always makes her (horror) protagonists so likeable and real. I always love their inner monolgues. There’s something about them that feels so warm and friendly about them in comparison to the dark and scary things happening to them.
While I love that the author often chooses niche monsters, I think I lost a bit of interest when we decided to dive into the lore behind them. I think I would have been fine not getting a backstory at all and would have readily accepted there’s just monsters in them hills.

Disappointing. I was more annoyed by the main character than anything. I didn't think it was spooky at all, but maybe it was the Audiobook narration that ruined it for me.
