I was cleaning out my old bedroom at my parents house and found a pile of MHC paperbacks, all unread. Thought some of them would be good for the plane.

My favorite part of MHC is the buildup- the introduction of all the new characters where you wonder which one is the baddie. The climax is never that exciting because her endings are usually very similar to each other. Still. Good suspenseful fun. This one goes into the politics of architecture and land development- interesting stuff.

Okay honestly I’ve gotten my fix of this author. After listening to like 7 in a row I’m done lol it was a good run but moving on. I really liked the series she did bc you get to know main characters and I liked the premise better than the one outside the series. Ok this is legit the review no one asked for

It was somewhat predictable and I wasn’t convinced with some of the details. It held my attention, but also disappointed me.

Nell McDermot is just about to relaunch a career in local politics, when she is blindsided by the news that her husband, Adam Cauliff, is dead. His boat exploded in the midst of a business meeting being conducted onboard, & Adam, his secretary, a construction worker, & an investor are all presumed dead. As the detectives investigate the case, they begin to uncover evidence that Adam was not who Nell thought he was, a fact that could jeopardize her fledgling political career. Nell does her best to cope with the lifechanging news, but when she is approached by a psychic who claims to have been contacted by Adam from the other side, who tells her to beware the fifth man who was supposed to be onboard but was in a minor traffic accident, Nell wonders if the psychic could be telling the truth.

This seemed like it might be a thriller with a paranormal edge, but unfortunately there was little that was thrilling about it. It's very pedestrian, slow, & predictable. You can pick out the possible future love interest from a mile away & we don't even find out how the explosion was engineered. This is not one of the author's best works & I would avoid unless you need something to lull you to sleep.

This was just kind of silly. The plot wasn't great and the writing was worse. I cannot fathom why Mary Higgins Clark has so many fans. This was the first and last book of hers I'll ever read.

Rereading of my favorite mystery author! Not one of my most favorites of her story, but still a good one.
