Mucha violencia, demasiado machismo, poca poesía... Lo acabé, pero apenas y casi todo el rato estuve con cara de -_-. Dos estrellas porque está bien escrito en general.

Why so much talk about that one girl’s vagina, honestly? I loved this book but have revised my opinion of Puzo to assume that he hates women.

I thought this was an amazing book. I know some people said this was book was redundant and felt really slow paced but I feel like the pacing of the book was in line with how both Don Corleone’s acted. They were meticulous and didn’t say things before their time and the book did that so well. I now see why so many people consider this a classic because the messages of family loyalty, power and greed stood the test of time and it was brilliant seeing it all unravel. I will be recommending this book to so many people and I’ll make sure to let them know it’s a book they cannot refuse.

Genuinely shocked at all the five star reviews. Someone said that unlike the film this "cuts right to the chase". Surely a joke. This could be literally half the size. So many needless character segments. Segments which also gave incredibly creepy vibes; there's a whole chunk about Lucy Mancini having a vagina which is too big and so she has an operation and the doctor who does it wants to "try it out". Was it meant to be funny? Satire that I just didn't get? What the actual fuck did I just read? The gangster stuff had more compelling moments but still found these characters don't half rattle on... Not to mention how offensive many sections read. Of course, I have to take into account that this was written in 1969 but still makes for an uncomfortable read.

Definitely a case where the film far exceeds the novel.

Oh my god. I just finished reading The Godfather by Mario Puzo and it was just incredible. Just incredible. We're only mid-way through Jan and I'm only 5 books into the year but I just can't see anything topping this. I think this may make it into my top 10 favourite books of all time. 5 stars, more if possible.
