I'm pleased to say that unlike past B&R collections, volume 3 is 100% great, without anything that feels like filler. The return of both the Joker and Doctor Hurt is well-done, and the whole thing nicely dovetails into both the time travel story from Return of Bruce Wayne, and the Batman Incorporated series to follow.

This volume overlaps with so many other apparently concurrent adjacent and tangential books and storylines that it's best to just relax and go with the flow. I'm sure close and careful reading of these would be rewarding and enjoyable but I'm in more of a read-and-run state at the moment. The return of Brice Wayne, Sexton Blake's identity revealed, the return of Dr Hurt, the end of Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne as the dynamic duo, the rise of Leviathan and the establishment of Batman Inc. I love the idea of Batman Inc - in the real world it would be horrific, but in a world of supervillains and more secret organisations with armies of assassins and spies and henchmen, it makes absolute logical sense. I don't know if this is a bewildering chaotic mess or a glorious chaotic rush, but the latter seems more in the spirit of comic books, so why not.

I've been reading the Grant Morrison run a little out of order but overall have been disappointed. The storyline is really all over the place and aside from adding Damian to the family - and don't get me wrong, I love Damian - I don't feel like he's bringing anything terribly unique or intriguing to the Batman family. It's the same brooding Bruce Wayne we've always had with no Batgirl cameos at all, nothing new from the Joker and a convoluted plot that isn't that interesting. The highlight for me was the trade before this one, which was all about Dick Grayson stepping into Batman's shoes and getting Damian to work with him. Bleh.
