okay wowowowow this was good. like REALLY good. right off the bat, my #1 gripe would be the ending. it just made me.. disappointed? the main character completely shifted into a new person. while that makes sense considering what happened, i was hoping this shift would be more.. harmonious? peaceful? i thought alyce was strong-willed enough to not let that shift overpower her, but it did, and very quickly. also PISSED that things were finally going right then shit hit the fan REAL fast. fuck every single character except the mc and li. OTHER THAN ALL THAT, i really did enjoy this read and will definitely read it again when the next book comes out. i love all the recent sapphic books, but i had really been searching for a sapphic fantasy, and here it is!

Minor minor minor spoiler ahead:
This book answers the question “what would Maleficent be like if she was framed by the actual evil people and also gay?” The chemistry between Alyce and Aurora was so sweet. I found myself not wanting to put the book down and shirk all my other responsibilities. The only thing is that if you don’t like YA books/tropes, this one might not be for you. Most of the characters are in their 20s but a lot of this book is coming-of-age and Alyce learning about her power.
I wish that I bought the second book at the same time so I could just read them in succession. Looks like I’m taking a trip to my local bookstore this weekend!

Fairy tale from the villains perspective, which goes about as well as you'd expect.
