⭐️⭐️ Left Much To Be Desired
Malice had an intriguing concept—a dark Sleeping Beauty retelling blended with elements that reminded me of The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. I appreciated the unique magic system and the potential it had to build an immersive world. Unfortunately, that’s where my enjoyment ended. I struggled to connect with the characters, and their development felt shallow and inconsistent. The plot was riddled with holes, and several threads were left dangling without resolution. It felt like the story never fully came together, and because of that, I don’t plan on continuing the series. A promising idea that fell flat in execution.

Suuuuuper slow build up. I really only started feeling gripped by the storyline about 1/4 of the way through. I liked a lot of the character development and felt delightfully surprised by some plot points, but by the end it just felt like the story was oversaturated with plot twists. I give it some credit because I enjoy a queer retelling of classic stories, but I would’ve enjoyed it more if the pacing was more evenly spread.

Not as YA as I expected based on some of the reviews - a pleasant surprise. Interested to see where Book 2 goes.
maaaaannnn idk if i should just read book two, the characters kind of make weak decisions recklessly and the whole kingdom coup was too…idk…not much depth and details like a high fantasy would iguess….but it’s also not high fantasy…IDKKK… but as always,!love the gays tho!
