Predictable but fun until about the 75% mark. Alyce got so evil so fast. Absolutely wild pacing.
Pacing was weird and though the narrative was interesting, there was not a ton of development of the romance. So it was a little hard to buy into the love story. However, I'm invested enough to read the second book.

4 stars. This was a really good retelling of Sleeping Beauty. The writing was really good for a debut and the world building and scenery was lush and I had no problem imagining everything going on. The characters were good as well and the romance, which is really in the background until the end, was developed nicely.
Alyce is a very interesting character and I really enjoyed her character development and I think she comes into her own by the end. She’s very likable. Her relationship with Aurora was so sweet and soft. Aurora herself is interesting as well, I just wish we had gotten to know her a bit more but it’s fine.
My main problem was the pacing of this. It feels every little it of 460 something pages. The beginning was good and pulled me in, but a lot of the middle chunk was really boring and I found myself not as invested. The ending was good though and makes me excited for book two. Overall, this was a good read and I’m interested to see where book two goes and how everything wraps up.
