One sitting was all it took for this book.
Well written, intense and I just can’t wait for more.
The characters broke my heart, once or twice, and that ending....my goodness. I know this is just newly out but when is book 2 coming?????

Things I Liked:
- I actually really liked the ending. Spoilers:Alyce’s negative character growth, becoming evil, made sense. When I look back, it had so much foreshadowing. Like everything really was heading towards her becoming the “villain.”
- In fact a lot of the characters felt very human in the fact they had good qualities and were capable of being compassionate, especially towards Alyce, but still eventually failed her.
- Alyce and Aurora’s relationship development felt natural. Wasn’t super forced or out of the blue. I appreciated how much time they spent just talking and getting to know each other. And the almost-kiss we got at one point! AHHHHH!!
- The magic system is really interesting! It’s not super complex, but how the Graces work and why they exist had an interesting history.
- The writing style was very pretty and sensory, especially. Lots of taste and smell words.
Things I Didn’t Like:
- Spoilers:The whole Veelah vs Etherians conflict felt a little simplistic, if that makes any sense?Maybe the second book will go more into the history between the two but the history book that had been written by a Veelah of course described the Veelah’s culture as almost utopian? And I was like that. Seems too easy. Like of course they’re not evil, but to be presented as if their government and its people were paragons and noble was. Not as nuanced as I wish it was.
But that’s really pretty much it? This book felt really satisfyingfor a story that was pretty much exploring how someone becomes a villain. Really enjoyed it and the romance was sweet.
