Listen, I hate stupid characters. Biggest pet peeve. And Alyce was so, so stupid.
I liked the overall plot, and it was a very entertaining and fairytale retelling. The twist at the end was particularly good. But Alyce...annoyed me sm. Wildly osculating between intense self deprecating internal ramblings to villain monologues talking about how she's the most powerful grace/veela to exist. what really did it for me though was her blind trust of Cal. The whole time I was telling "girl!! this creepy shadow man is OBVIOUSLY MANIPULATING YOU." 3 stars.

This is such a cool take on different fairy tales, particularly sleeping beauty. I can’t wait to read the next one!
"One upon a time there was a villain. "
While the original story of the sleeping beauty has its dark parts, in this one you get another side of the story and maybe, just maybe, the evil witch is not as evil as you thought she was....
This is a retelling of sleeping beauty with a marvelous twist and a very dark, twisted and unique story.
Heather Walter is giving us a villain to cheer for!
In this story the villain is the hero you fall in love in and voting for to succeed.
Alice, the dark grace, the vila...

It took me a bit to get fully into this book, I think I’m still getting used to the world building that’s often involved in fantasy books. But I ended up loving this book! The last half was so intriguing and was a page turner, loved this retelling and can’t wait to read the second in this duology!
The only flaw to this is that it gets a tad immature in character and interactions. Otherwise it feels very fresh and interesting in an oversaturated fairytale retelling market. The author made lots of room for their own voice, ideas, etc.
