I didn’t even finish this book because I figured out what would happen less than halfway through, flipped to the back and confirmed I was right, and put it down. Neither the characters nor the plot were enough to keep me engaged to keep going. Super disappointed because this one came highly recommended.

3.5 stars rounded up for originality. It felt appropriately like the author's first book. It could've used more editing. I'll read the sequel.
Thoroughly enjoyed the world-building and retelling, even if I didn't realize it was the first book in a duology until reaching the end!

I started this book during the end of my freshman year, so unfortunately it was not a priority. I was studying for finals, packing up, going home, and then starting work again, meaning I was too busy to really be present and engaged with Malice.
The writing and plot reads very YA which I’m not the target audience for anymore. I wish it was grittier and more complex with a focus on the character development and dynamics of our main characters. I feel like the style and choices made put me in more of a slump than I already was in.
BUT…
It has lesbianism AND it’s a fairy tale retelling about a villain. Both of those things are my favs so I had a great time regardless of the fact it took me forever to read.
