Villain origin stories are what keep me going! Holy crap this book was so wonderful, it took me some time to get into it but after that I couldn’t hardly put it down. I thought this book would have a different approach and give her a happily ever after but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy that last part where she snaps completely!! Can’t wait for book 2 and crossing my fingers our Alyce gets her revenge, her girl, and her happy ending.

This is being the month of the retellings for me and I'm cherishing every second to be honest.

I found this book interesting, I loved the writing style, very fairytale-like, which I deeply enjoyed because you know, Sleeping Beauty retelling. I'm totally thriving for the main couple I love them I would draw so much fanart of both of them if I knew how to draw.

I was quite pleased and surprised with all this deep socioeconomical context around the Graces' situation, and the criticism about women's aging and how they are basically disregarded by society when they reach a certain stage of life. Also the traditionally female beauty standars and how they fucking fuck everyone, even the women who "reach" those standars (because there isn't such a thing, not really, we could argue some women are closer than others). These topics were very well integrated in the world-building, I honestly wasn't expecting such commentary at all so I loved it, Heather Walter you ate good for you.

It isn't a five stars book because there were a couple of moments where Alyce was just being way too silly too dumb, her thinking process became convoluted just for plot's sake, which maybe ended up with the book being longer than it could've/should've been. Also this whole plot twist was predictable from a mile away, if you know you know.

Still I totally recommend it, I think it's fun and well written and totally captivating.

This book was absolutely stunning! An amazingly well done retelling with the "villain" backstory. The magic was fascinating, and the story telling was beautiful. The love story was perfect and the cliffhanger ending was tragic! Wonderful story.
