This is a good YA sapphic retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Interesting POV as it is focused on the villain. However, the story feels like it was rushed to just end as this is book one of a duology.

I really don’t know how I feel about this book. To me it was very wordy for nothing to happen until the last 10 ish chapters. I’m all for a dark, lesbian, fairytale retelling but the book did give off soft homophobia. Alyce was misjudged the entirety of the book, very cliche vibe of “you’re different than us so you must be bad!”. Everything was so painfully obvious on how it needed to be solved but played off like it was this shocking detail, when I knew almost right away. The trope of, oh she won’t remember you, made me over the book tbh.

I enjoyed the drama of Malice. The fun world building and complex emotions that follow us made me all the more enthralled. Where I stopped my enjoyment was at the utter stupidity of the characters. They often acted in ways that make sense for a 20 year old, but ultimately was still dumb as shit. I am excited to see what happens next in Misrule. I enjoyed Walter's writing and found it fun, just not the love drunk childish leads.
