The Otter, the Spotted Frog and the Great Flood was an exceptional read. It was unique, attention grabbing and downright interesting. I enjoyed learning about the Creek Indian perspective on creation and the flood.
The wisdom of the frog and the otter was evident. The strength, conviction, and determined purpose of each was sure, despite the naysayers.
This book made me want to learn more about the Creek Indians and about other stories that their culture has to share.

A traditional Native American creation story stemming from the Creek Indians in Florida.
The Listener, Otter and Honors the Buffalo Chief inhabit the world long ago. A spotted frog gives them a warning about a Great Flood. The Listener heeds the spotted frogs warning of the Great Flood while none of the other animals do.
A story of morals and above all, listening to and respecting nature with familiar elements from other cultures creation stories. I enjoyed the illustrations and the simplicity of the story for children while still creating a clear message. It allows the story to be told in a variety of mediums, it could easily be translated into a play, puppet show or told by a storyteller.

This is a wonderful retelling of the creation story. The listener and Honors Himself are own opposite sides of a debate. The listener believes the spotted frog's prophecy about the great flood and Honor Himself doesn't. The richly colored art work in this book is visually appealing and has gorgeous Native American dreamscape overtones. This book would be a good introduction into folktales from different cultures.

I came across this story via Netgalley and read it to my son. We both agreed that we probably would have enjoyed this one much better in an actual picture book format vs my Kindle where the pictures and formatting were horrible. This was a beautiful Creek Indian story about the first man and first woman came to be the first two legged humans born into this world.
