Drink a shot every time Simi touches her dagger in her hair and every time she thinks about Kola's brown eyes and big hands.
Don't do it, you'll end up in the ER 💀
It would be a nicer read if the writing wasn't sooooooooo repetitive. So many things are repeated way too much and too frequently. Not only across the second book, but across the two books.
The African history and mythology were what made me keep on reading.

No notes, just a really lovely sequel! Seeing Simi beat herself up over every action she took was hard, but often us Black women hold ourselves to impossibly high standards to help, provide for, and protect others, and judge ourselves most harshly when we “fail”. so it was sad but i felt it 100%
Either way I love the ending for her, and thought this was a lovely closing to this adventure.

Soul of the Deep is a finale that leaves lots of questions unanswered, but my god, it is so good. I teared up in a few parts as well. I listened to most of the story but wanted to finish it tonight so I could focus on other audiobooks. 💖 I read about 80 pages, and it was so great.
If you loved Skin of the Sea, continue the duology.
