Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres but I haven’t read it in a while so it was fun to jump back in! I read this on recommendation from a friend and overall enjoyed it. It was fascinating to read about real women who were so infatuated with Hitler; you often get the opposite view in WW2 books, so this was certainly an interesting read. The story kept moving and I liked that it was told from multiple points of view. Overall I liked it but didn’t love it.

Interesting and informative but not my favorite Marie Benedict book. Dragged a bit and there was not much to like about this family.

I had never heard of the Mitford family prior to reading this book. It proved to be a fascinating journey through the ideas and beliefs that would draw women of somewhat high society to act as they did during Hitler's rise to power. The way the book is written provides an avenue for understanding a mindset that is now nearly impossible to fathom. We are currently living in a world that is very close to the one described in this book.

This book is terrible. It reads like a treatment for a Netflix series. Too bad, because it’s based on the true story of a bunch of rich British fascists (really!) in England before WW2 so you’d think the author had some good material to work with. But she writes like this: “But what about Pamela?
Is she so smitten and busy with Derek Jackson--the quirky physicist and renowned steeplechase rider she's been seeing, who espouses an affinity with fascism such that the previously apolitical Pamela has suddenly claimed an allegiance that she cannot make an appear-ance?” That’s an actual sentence that this author wrote and an editor let go and I had to read. Do yourself a favor and pass this one by.
