When I started reading this I was confused, having been a Jodi Picoult fan for years, because it seemed to so closely parallel The Pact. I actually thought she wrote a book piggy backing an already successful novel. Anyway- it grew on me and has pieces so unexpected I couldn’t stop reading.

Mad Honey is an intensely engaging story of young love, tragedy, and secrets hidden beneath the surface. Jodi Piccoult and Jennifer Boylan seamlessly merged their writing styles into a fascinating tale I could not put down. I found myself reading for hours without noticing any time had passed. The subplots and backgrounds of each character were extremely well done, allowing subtleties in tone and actions to be understood easily. I felt very connected to Olivia throughout the story- so much so that I teared up as if I was Asher’s mother at multiple points. Highly recommend.

Wow! This book was so good. The twists and turns were amazing. I love how the story was set in two perspectives, one moving forward in time and one moving backwards. It was a really neat way to uncover new ideas and theories. This was truly incredible

Mad Honey is it's own story but I feel like if you are a fan of Saving Jacob, Middlesex,  or The Lovely Bones you will love it. The journey of all the characters is haunting and melancholy. Sensitive readers should research the content because there are many possible triggers.
This is a long story (15 hrs) but it goes by really fast.

(Slight spoilers, nothing crazy)

This book has a way of drawing you in, it was the first one in a while I found myself making extra time to read. I love that it was co-authored by a trans woman because queer story lines written by queer people just hit different. Finding out what actually happened to Lily and the relationship between Olivia and another character felt a little rushed at the end, but I’ll probably end up recommending this book to friends if asked.

First 5 star read of the year. I couldn't put it down. I had so many theories. I didn't know what I was getting into. I loved this. So much. I did hope for a slightly different ending, but we can't win them all.

This was incredibly emotional, and covers a lot of important insights into the trans experience. Rating is just for the ending and parallel murder mystery storyline.
