If Stephen King wrote "The Leftovers" as a ghost story novel

It took me awhile to get caught on while reading this book. I should have listened to my friend when they told me to read it without any distractions! It was a decent book, however, I found myself to be very confused at times and definitely had to reread some things. The ending caught me by surprise as I was anticipating the juicy details of what was actually going on on this island. The author will make you wait until the very end for the answers, which was kind of frustrating for me because I wanted, at the very least, a hint! Perhaps I am just impatient. I feel like if I read this without any distractions, I would have enjoyed it more. I might have to reread this for a more specific response.

My favorite quote from this book was actually from Pastor Rita, believe it or not, when she said, “We are all born with the capacity to believe, but at some point, we have to open up our hearts and let it in. And sometimes it takes a single moment to do that.”

A real delight. I found this in a Little Free Library and tore through it. It was such a fun, creepy mystery. I wasn’t terrified, but I was sufficiently entertained by a unique story in a very specific place. I’ve never read anything quite like this, but at the same time, it plays with familiar tropes in cheeky ways.
dark mysterious sad tense slow-paced

3.5 ⭐️ definitely a unique story, but I felt like it got too slow in some parts and really didn’t have any major plot twists—everything was just revealed steadily. This story had some opportunity for things to be creepier and to move faster but it missed the mark just slightly. Over all decent read.
