I loved the characters in this book and the bond that grows between them throughout. The world building and the concept was very intriguing. I just felt like the ending was a bit rushed.

3.5 stars.

Honestly, I really enjoyed some aspects of this book, like the quirky characters and some of the world building, but the pacing was just. so. painfully. slow. I read 80% of it and then got sick of waiting for some real action and basically skim read the last 20% of the book just to finish it. I do think that... it wasn't super interesting to be honest. And I loved the characters, but my BIGGEST pet peeve with YA books is the rushed approach to romance. Like. Develop it more. Nathaniel spent half the time in his fucking study and all of a sudden he loved her? ok jan.

Anyway it as interesting but not memorable and it took me 15 fucking DAYS TO READ

Best YA romantasy I've read in a while - original, atmospheric, captivating.

What reader hasn't dreamed about growing up in a library once Upon A time? Even better when the books are alive, some more than others, and the library itself seems to be your friend.
In truth, markedly fewer of us dreamed about some of those books being dangerous and could potentially turning into deathly monsters at any moment.

That, however is precisely what Elisabeth has grown up with her whole life. Finally getting close to her dream of becoming both keeper and protector to the more dangerous books in the library, one fateful night rips her whole life apart. Suddenly, she's accused of setting one free and triggering it and get's collected by  one of the most accomplished sorcerers to stand trial. Elisabeth has of course known that all sorcerers are evil since she can remember, but convincing her captor of her innocence might be her only way out.

I think what I most appreciated while reading this story was how new it felt to me. I've read my fair share of romantasy books, yet I've never come across one similar to this one. I loved the whole concept of dangerous magical books with a sort of consciousness of their own that need to be both protected and feared.
Additionally, not only the main characters are easy to like, but the side characters stand out, too. The author also opted not to try and bring everything to a perfect close without at least some sort of lingering effects, but instead crafted an ending that felt more realistic while also being satisfying.

All in all this is a book that is not only perfectly suited for readers of the YA age group, but also enjoyable for all other romantic fantasy readers.

6/5 (YES, I RATE BEYOND THE RULES. FIGHT ME!!!)

This book LITERALLY made me a reader. Saw it everywhere on Bookstagram, resisted the e-book temptation, and WAITED like a saint for my physical copy-WORTH IT. Now it sits proudly in my first-ever book haul like the trophy it is.

the starting of the book was very good and got me hopefull but finish was underwhelming and not well execucted
