Overall, these are excellent illustrated middle grade dragon stories! We read all 13 HTTYD books long, long before the movies or the TV shows, and Hiccup and Toothless and Fishlegs (and Horror Cow) and Camicazi and Old Wrinkly and Alvin (!) were favorites in our home for years. The books have been read to shreds. Absolutely fantastic for getting your graduating-from-chapter-book reader into longer works. Enjoy!

The series seems to have matured a bit by this point. The third-grade humor is much less, though no less silly, slapstick, and irreverent. The story telling was at its best so far in the series with this installment, and my little ones were rapt when I read it to them, and request it every night until we finished it.

The story included a couple twists, and one that actually surprised me. Just when I thought I had figured out this juvenile book series featuring a boy fighting vikings with pumpkin pie, I was surprised by where the story went and the may have even (as a supposed adult myself) taken away some lessons.

You could certainly do worse if you crave a simple, silly, fantasy story that doesn't take itself too seriously, and it might leave you questioning how simple and silly it actually is.

Fourth in the Hiccup series

Turns out one of the most important vegetables in the world is indeed POTATO

Hiccup and Camicazi make the best team!

OMG, I loved it!

I thought that the later books will be worse (a pattern that is common in kids series), but it was amazing and literally one of the best books in this series, yet. I was hooked till the last page, I seriously didn't know how this will untangle and I was really surprised by the cleverness of the ending. I warmly recommend.

Have a good day!

Predictable, sure. But also fun, and better paced than the previous installment, with a *bonus* plot twist or two. Besides, it's written for the favoritest ten-year-old in the land (you can't prove otherwise!), and as such, it's kind of perfect for him.

[3 stars for simple fun still being fun.]
