another book that kept me furiously turning the pages. i was HOOKED from the first chapter. i devoured this book every spare second i had. i loved how there were two voices telling the story, and the way we jumped from past to present. the story was also hard to predict - the ending truly shook me. i literally closed the book and burst into tears from shock. it was so sad and yet it fit so perfectly. a poetic ending to say the least.

Such a fun read of splendidly-written twists & turns. I thoroughly enjoyed journeying with the characters’ and was kept in thrilling suspense right ‘til the end. A recommended read from me! Now off to find more Sally Hepworth books…

I was a little afraid that the narrative style choice was going to be kind of gimmicky, but I thought it worked pretty well. But also goddamn, can women stop dating super annoying and damaging men? At least this is super realistic. The husband is just such a nightmare. The female characters in this book seem to fall into the trope of women being too emotional to remember to be logical. And I do not like that.

I like Sally Hepworth’s domestic thrillers, this one just felt a little like a stretch compared to the others. (Spoilers ahead)

Like, since Max acquired his finances in a fishy way, wouldn’t the funding going to the girls be subject to weird laws with the police given the murder? And Gabe really isn’t going to prison for murder, that’s just going to be something he lives with? I’m not sure I loved this ending. And also I wish they did a bit more with mental illness or helping Gabe. Yes he has to help himself, and I’m glad Pippa didn’t get trapped in an unhappy marriage where she’s caring for him, but I wish we had resolution showing he got help somehow.

it was alright, the short chapters made it a pretty quick and entertaining enough read. nothing too exciting happens, and there was barely any tension built because the cliffhangers (pun unintended) were usually resolved quickly. also i disagree with the 50% of you that said there was "strong character development"; did we read the same book? but! i am satisfied with the ending, so overall, it was fine.
