A bit conflicted about this one. I really loved Hear the Wind sings. Murakami is still someone who can crafts an atmosphere like no other. I love how easy to read his story is and there is no plot to it, just vibes.
But in Pinball i really dont like how he writes about every woman that takes part in the story. I heard it was a common theme for Murakami to really only focus on the body (mostly the breast) of the woman, but to not give a single woman a name and just talk about them like theyre just some accessoire to the story idk... In Hear the Wind sing, this wasnt such an issue or i just didnt recognise it, but in Pinball that really bothers me.

You can see how Murakami becomes his usual self as the book goes on, which can be both amazing and insufferable at the same time. It's "no plot, just vibes" but deep down, I think it'd about the main character looking for his ex-girlfriend. That's the way Murakami becomes Murakami but with a veil on in this one. Maybe the pinball was her this whole time, but cause the main character can't come to terms with her death, he visualised the situation as him looking for the three-flipper Spaceship.
