3.35 AVERAGE

2,5 stars. Doesn't have Hear the Wind Sing's structure or focus. The last half is full of gorgeous writing, especially about pinball and the quest, but at that point there's not much left. I liked The Rat's plotline, but even that is too bogged down in boring descriptions. Liked the wistfulness though, and I always enjoy stories about people who are bored and tired of life, who feel lost, unsure of how and where to move on, what to do with all their time, those who play pinball for hours just to kill it, hour by hour. But mostly this left me cold. Could've easily been combined with Hear the Wind Sing into a longer book, one that went into The Rat and the main character's loneliness and their relationship with women.

Wild Sheep Chase>Pinball>Wind

The second book in The Rat series. Read just as fast as the first. Symbols and allusions abound in this one. Still, I can see why Murakami didn't release this book to the world. A good read. A pleasant read. But I'm not sure it's a good read for someone who doesn't already enjoy the literature of Murakami.

2.5 sorry Haruki but it did not got me hooked to the point where I just read it for the sake of finishing it

"Where are you going?"
"I'm off to play pinball."
"Pinball?"
"You got it, batting balls with flippers."
"I know what pinball is. But really, why?"
"There are-how do you say-things in this world our philosophy cannot account for."

This is the second book (The Rat trilogy #2) written by Murakami. The protagonist's intense obsession with pinball totally engrossed me. It was a good read actually but it's a bit plain for my taste.
