I was so interested in the concept, but this really didn't work for me.
Well written but deeply disturbing. The mental and emotional abuse was too much, but I understand it was to play on and highlight the unrealistic standards and expectations that are placed on mothers. I kept holding onto hope that the MC’s situation would improve, but I remained disappointed until the end.
Horrifying but captivating. Horrifying because of how the mothers are treated but also because parts of this dystopian are believable. The story exaggerates in order to emphasize the unrealistic expectations put upon mothers, the unequal expectations of mothers and fathers, the fuzzy lines of what is a “good” and “bad” mother, that institutionalization and conformity to a rigid set of norms is the way to “fix” someone and even a commentary on the lack of appropriate mental health care in our society. There’s so much fodder for discussions.
i really liked the premise of this book but it’s was so slow and repetitive so i thought there would be a huge revelation or something at the end, but it basically ended in the “safest” way possible that could’ve been predicted in the beginning. i like the discussion on mothers and how they have so much pressure to be perfect but the story itself lacked a lot of details and explaination.

I did not enjoy this book very much. I don't think I can recommend it.
3.5 hours in and it never got interesting. I didn't like the characters and I found the premise and some of the scenarios far too unbelievable.

Very on-the-nose, but enjoyable. It starts to get pretty repetitive throughout, but I'm not sure there's a good way to avoid that with the nature of the plot.
