So haunting and uncomfortable it's...haunting and uncomfortable. "The School for Good Mothers" is one of the those reads that just lingers. And makes you think. Then makes you sad. Then makes you angry. And if you're a mother reading this, well you know exactly what's coming, but still it's hard to brace for. Now, repeat after me: "I am a bad mother, but I am learning to be good.”

I can't rate this book. It was well written.

But the story was horrifying. I couldn't stop reading because I desperately wanted to know how it ended. I ached for the mothers. I hated reading the atrocities they were put through, that their children were put through. I know these things happen in real life too, and that made it even more terrible. Reading this book made my heart hurt.
