This goes in a direction that the serious setup doesn't anticipate - and it's worth the journey.

liberate the sea creatures!

The Aquanaut was a quick and fun read. Santat’s art and storytelling blended together seamlessly through a tale of found family, friendship, and remembering what’s important in the face of grief and capitalism.

Sophie’s need for a friend after her loss touched my heart, and when she finds it in the most unlikely of places, her uncle is reminded of the root of his mission founded by himself and his brother. Sea Creatures in Costume wasn’t on my 2022 bucket list of reads but I now believe it should be on everyone’s! When searching for likeness and family outside of the one you already have, the Aquanaut is soon reminded that they’ve always had each other’s backs, even in scary and dangerous situations.

With rich colors and a smooth read, The Aquanaut has become one of my favorite June reads.

Aquanaut is an absolute delight!  I feel like this middle-grade, graphic novel is a must have for any classroom or school library.  The story is intriguing and heartfelt and the art is gorgeous.  Those of us "of-a-certain-age" will immediately recognize the tribute to Jacques Cousteau with the use of a well-placed red beanie.  It's a fast-paced page turner, and I just didn't want it to end.  Highly recommend!

This is really sweet but wow is it sad. Even though it ends on a hopeful, happy note, with the overall themes being about loss and how to preserve legacies without losing sight of the present, it's not a fun-times MG story. The art and colors are really nice. Pacing was a little erratic, which led to a couple little plot things that seemed to happen out of no where, but the main story itself was easy to follow.

This book was a comfortable, cute read that I was able to read and finish in about an hour. Is a great choice if you're looking for something quick to read and fill time with, although it might not be the best choice if you're looking for something that will twist your heart or evoke strong feelings.
