Another tense installment with Cork O’Connor. It’s December, Henry Meloux is in Thunder Bay visiting his son, his niece Raynie is in Arizona with her adult son and his substance abuse. Annie unexpectedly appears

Another enjoyable Cork O'Connor mystery. The final twist was broadcast too obviously, but still a 4 star. I listened to the audio book.

Cork O'Connor gets pulled into investigating the disappearance of the judge's wife, and his son and girlfriend find themselves in danger, while one of his daughters, once assured of her calling, wrestles with what her future should be.

Like all of the Cork O’Conner mysteries this one did not disappoint. In fact, it had some decent plot twists I didn’t predict. A quick read on Memorial Day Weekend.

Cork O’Connor is busy assisting the Aurora PD with a missing senior who just happens to be the wife of a cranky retired judge. It’s also winter and she disappeared during a blizzard. He’s also got his daughter the future nun home and she’s acting strange. His son has a girlfriend and hormones are active. Cork’s girlfriend, Rainy, has gone off to Arizona to help her son who has relapsed into alcohol or drugs. It appears the girlfriend and her good looking mom are being stalked as someone beheaded their dog. Cork becomes their guardian angel. Being uncertain of his continuing relationship with Rainy in Arizona temptation is front and center.

Cork thinks the missing woman and the stalking could be related but in a way he’s totally blind to. He perceives a malevolent force stalking Aurora. Even Henry Meloux, away in Canada, calls Cork about bad dreams.

Lots of misdirection in this one and a rather suspenseful chase and hostage situation for the conclusion.

Another great outing about Cork O'Connor and his family and extended family. I do so love this series and its insights of spirituality through native American lore and teachings. This time, an old case brings deaths and new terror, and spiritual plans seem to go awry. I will continue on the journey soon with Cork's next adventure.

This book gave me more information about the place and Stephen’s journey as a teen and become a Mide.  I just love being with these characters.  They are not perfect or idealized but real characters with real concerns.

Though I have mixed feeling about these books, this series is one of my guilty pleasures. I've always been a little troubled by Krueger's appropriation of Anishinaabe culture and ceremony and the character of Henry Meloux often seems flat to me. But Krueger is a master at his craft. He knows how to pace a story a build suspense.
