This is mostly a nostalgia read for me as it was the first Star Trek novel I ever read. But as a story, it is unfocused and overly silly, even more so than the fluffiest episodes of TNG (the series on which it is based).

While at first I was skeptical of the plot (pirate-talking Ferengi with designs on a superweapon?!), ab Hugh proves that it's possible to make anything better with humor.
