This book is probably something totally different from what I was expecting. One unhinged serial killer mermaid trying to weasel out of consequences of her actions, set in Italy? Alright. Some parts were fun, some ridiculous, sex scenes that came out of the left-field, rich people problems and media drama? Check, check, check, check. For me it was a nice ride overall, but nothing that will stay in my mind for long.
My main issue is with the pacing. The short chapters are easy to get through but I'd say that some parts of the book, especially towards the end, read like snapshots of one's life rather than a cohesive story. Because of that, I didn't care for the characters and while the ending was a great twist, it left me uninterested to continue with the series.
I think this might work for people who want something quick and easy to get through some action, shady mermaids and a dubious main character in the centre of everyone's attention.
Thank you to the author and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
