Brooks offers a novel definition of wisom - the 'art of understanding other people' - that sat with me better than any previous definitions. Then, he goes out to seek this wisdom.

The book is a mish-mash of psychological studies, ancient wisom, and personal anecdote. These ingredients are combined with, with them never feeling overdone on any side, which presents a feeling of balance. The overall result is good and knowledge and hones in on that feeling of wisdom that Brooks seeks.

The specific tips given are not revolutionary: listen closely, the importance of relationships, the different blocks that prevent people from seeing, the childhood blocks. But taken together, the result is positive and helpful.
