Fucking depressing and stoic for a children’s book
A beautiful and poetic story of a 12 year old grappling with the death of a schoolmate during a summer at her grandmothers seaside home. Short paragraphs and lovely bursts of introspective musings will captivate readers, especially those who appreciate characters driven stories.
Beautiful emotions
A great emotional story for young girls. Martha's journey to know Olive and herself and her relationship with Vince and the Manning boys is so similar to what adolescent girls go through.

I'd give it 3.5 stars. Profound moments of brilliance shadowed by confusing portions.
I almost gave up, but it was so short I just went ahead and finished. Meh.
A nice book about how we treat others and finding strength in the good things in our lives when the hard parts come.
Lovely and moving tribute to family, friends, and summer.
a short but really lovely little read. somehow, henkes managed to transport me back to my twelve-year-old self. i laughed, i cried, i felt the heartache of a disappointing crush. i loved the relationship between the protagonist and her grandmother.
