It’s good, just very long.

Surprisingly entertaining for a biographical account of a (admittedly action packed) life. As a non-American, it’s certainly given me a greater understanding of the context around the revolution, and certainly some of the divides still present in America today.

This was such an excellently written biography! I picked up this book after learning that it was the inspiration to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s (also excellently written) musical, Hamilton. And after reading this book, I have an even deeper appreciation of the play.

This book, of course, is about the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. I found the book very interesting and the author’s style of writing captivating (plus easy to follow and understand). He painted a fascinating picture of this man who was objectively a genius yet also objectively a polarizing character. Most everything that we rely on today (the financial system; the army, navy, and coast guard; the powers of the executive branch) this one man, this Alexander Hamilton, envisioned and helped to create. I’m absolutely in awe!

Despite his many contributions, the author wasn’t shy in highlighting some of Hamilton’s worst qualities such as his paranoia, his know-it-all attitude, and his elitism. Yet I enjoyed seeing and learning about the full picture of this great historical figure. While I once found history to be boring, I now have a new appreciation for it and look forward to reading more biographies, especially ones written by this same author. I absolutely loved this one - 5 stars!

Incredible detail, but author was weirdly defense of Hamilton’s problematic issues and skirted over them instead of going on at length like he did for accolades.

This is an exceptional book.
