A manor, family members who don't get along at all and a poisonous heir who never misses a beat when it comes to making sarcastic remarks - the book was as entertaining as the first one and peppered with lovely plot twists. It's an old -school who dunit focusing more on the family members - who are always slightly over the top in their characterisation - than on the Inspector and his Sergeant.

Excellent fun. I like Heyers' snippy, upper-class characters, and her plots aren't bad, either. Though I confess, I did find myself feeling rebelliously fond of the most sarcastic character, even when he was saying outrageously rude things to people. In person, I'd probably be pretty shocked, but here, I could just relax and laugh guiltily.

3,5 stars.

Fast summer read. Exatcly what I had expected and needed. Agatha Christie in style but without a charming detective. Well plotted but I wished for some more descriptions of the aftermath.

Minus 1,5 stars for: repetetive dialogue, bland inspector, a bit too abrupt ending.

I tend to think that mysteries are much more charming when set in the English country side. That the Master of the Manor might have died because the "duck was a touch gamey" is not something you come across in the American equivalents. Again, a good vacation read.

This great crime book reads like a play. In fact, I would love to see it as a play. Much would depend on the casting of this Randall character who I would love to have around to humorously flay those around me.

Roztomile disfunkční rodina, kde jsou všichni podezřelí a policii na sebe řeknou úplně všechno a nikde žádné strašlivé tajemství, prostě klasika.
