'Letter 44' is a cross between a political intrigue story and a space epic. It's the kind of big sprawling story that might make a good television show or movie, but it works probably best as a graphic novel, with it's cosmic themes and strange elements.

Shortly after the 44th President is sworn into office, he finds a letter on his desk addressed to him from his predecessor. The letter spells out the danger facing the earth from space: something has been spotted heading towards earth, the military buildup of the last two terms was to get the planet ready, and there is already a deep space exploration vessel with scientists and military on it's way to investigate.

It's a lot for a new president to digest, and the story deals with that as well as switching to the crew in space about to be close enough to get data back to earth. The tension is between the military and the scientist in space, and the new president and his rivals on earth.

It's an ongoing story, and I'm looking forward to where it goes from here. The story by Charles Soule is a engaging and the art by Alberto Alburquerque is quite good.

I was given a review copy of this graphic novel by Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this fine graphic novel.

This is the kind of large-scale sci-fi nonsense I love.

This was a pretty interesting comic. I stumbled across it on Amazon as part of their Prime Reading and figured to give it a try. It's a pretty captivating storyline and I look forward to reading the rest of the issues.

honestly, not bad. just not worth buying the second volume (yet). also, why not just call them obama & bush? if you're gonna critique them, at least be blatantly obvious about it. *sigh*

Letter 44 begins as newly inaugurated President Blades (assumed to be the 44th…) receives a letter from the previous president alerting him to a secret extraterrestrial discovery in the asteroid belt. A group of eight scientists and military leaders has spent the past 7 years traveling to this discovery and are just arriving as Blades steps into office.

This volume was filled with political corruption, space drama, plot twists and alien worlds. I really enjoyed the characters and the way the narrative was split between the political mess on Earth and the astronaut crew in space. I can’t wait to get my hands on the other two volumes to see how this ends!

This one was....definitely something. I know that's weak but that's about all I've got. Speculative fiction and sci fi have a tendency to jump the shark pretty easily, and this one did it fairly early on. Dunno if I'll read the other two.

Part political drama, part Alien invasion, what's not to like here? When the newly elected President takes office, he's given a secret letter from the previous President stating there's a secret asteroid containing alien life that the rest of the world doesn't know about and that it should be kept secret for the betterment of society.

While this volume only scratched the surface of the story being told here, there was definitely a lot to like and some great teases for what more is to come. I will definitely be checking out the rest of this series as it is released. My only real negative(and even then i can look past it) is the artwork in places, especially characters faces can get very muddy and jumbled and make them look deformed. Otherwise, very good series so far.

Full Disclosure: I received a free digital copy of Letter 44, Volume 1 through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
